Get to know Don
As part of a military family, Don grew up in New York, Japan, Florida, and California. In his high School years, the family moved to Anchorage, Alaska. Don graduated from the University of Alaska Anchorage (How ‘bout them Seawolves!) with a Degree in Civil Engineering. While Civil Engineering work was rewarding and challenging, he always had a keen interest in technology. These projects brought Don to many countries including Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Brazil, and Singapore. Don continued his technology career working as a software developer, IT Manager, IT Consultant, Project Manager, Executive Vice President, and CIO.
Don has two children who both graduated from Texas Tech. His daughter is a school teacher in Kansas City and his Son is a Software Engineer for Amazon in Seattle. In his spare time, Don enjoys golf, playing guitar, and finding new restaurants in Houston.
What led you to consulting?
I enjoy identifying client problems and delivering solutions. Additionally, consulting allows you to engage in projects, deliver solutions and move to the next opportunity. I enjoy the challenges and the opportunities to work with numerous clients across multiple industries and sectors.
How would you describe the culture at Bridgepoint?
The culture at Bridgepoint is very supportive, honest, and open. There is genuine caring and concern for employees on both a personal and professional level. The virtues of Humble, Hungry, and Smart are evident across the entire company.
What attracted you to Bridgepoint and when did you know #teambridgepoint was for you?
When I was an Executive Vice President for a Houston-based Crisis Management consulting firm I was responsible for software development and IT across the whole company. After about 12 years our company was part of a merger/acquisition, and the new entity needed a new IT organization and infrastructure. I discovered Bridgepoint and hired them to build our new IT infrastructure from the ground up. The client support and technical expertise lead to a successful project. Over the years I stayed in touch and eventually the timing was right for me to join Bridgepoint.
Talk to us about who you are outside of consulting.
I like getting outdoors and enjoy the many nice parks in Houston. I am a bit of a foodie and am always looking for new and interesting restaurants. My favorite hobby is playing guitar and I also enjoy golfing when I find the time.
What advice would you give someone who is considering a career in consulting?
If you enjoy varied challenges, impacting client’s success, and delivering unique solutions, then consulting is a great place to be. At Bridgepoint, you will be surrounded by smart people, and you will be continually challenged and rewarded.
