Get to know Jill

Jill is a Senior Recruiting Manager for Bridgepoint Consulting and has been with the company for over 4.5 years. Jill started at Bridgepoint on a short contract recruiting position between this and her last job. She now leads a team of dedicated Recruiters (4 wonderful women!), who are committed to hiring the best and the brightest to join #TeamBridgepoint, as well as providing the most positive candidate experience for everyone they connect with. Her career began after graduating college in New York City and getting a job with Blue Man Group on their Operations team.  After 4 years with them, Jill packed her bags and moved back to Texas, where she began her HR & Recruiting career.

Jill is originally from St. Paul, Minnesota (Manuel asks her to say certain words in her native accent at least a few times per quarter, don’t ya know?), and has lived in Austin for 11 years. She got married a year and a half ago,  narrowly missing the great COVID lockdown of 2020 by luckily planning her wedding in January. She and her husband Tim welcomed their first child, Arlo, to the world in January of this year.

What led you to recruiting?

After leaving New York City and Blue Man Group, where I worked in Operations, I moved to Austin and started got a job at a video game studio as an HR Coordinator.  Since Recruiting is usually always a function under HR, it was a natural transition, and one I felt was well suited for my talents. I just ran with it!

How would you describe the culture at Bridgepoint?

At the school of finance, accounting and systems, our culture feels a lot like Bridgepoint’s employees are the ones sitting at the cool kids’ table!  We’re a bunch of smart, professional people who love what we do and care so much about the work we put out for our clients and beyond.  And our leaders do a great job of setting the tone and offering tons of opportunities to learn and connect with each other!

What attracted you to Bridgepoint and when did you know #teambridgepoint was for you?

My boss from a former job, Kristi Kershaw, pulled me over, and honestly, I jumped at the opportunity to get to work with her again. Once I got here, I realized what a great professional fit this place was for me, and I met tons of other great people. Four and a half years later, this really feels like home.

Talk to us about who you are outside of recruiting.

Right now, my personal life is dedicated to trying to be the best parent I can be to my 6-month-old son, Arlo.  I have lots of challenges in juggling mom and work responsibilities – during a pandemic – and am trying to navigate as best I can.  My husband and I both spent years working hard to build our careers before becoming parents, and I think we’re experiencing many of the natural struggles first-time professional parents encounter as we try to give both responsibilities the attention they deserve.  Our kid is getting super active and more and more observant every day, so we plan our evenings and weekends around “family time” now.  Before baby, we used to travel to New Orleans and New Mexico regularly, and mostly went out for dinner or a movie, or drank wine and BBQ’d in the back yard at homehaha!  Now, we take lots of walks with our dog, Mila, and the stroller, visit the park and take dips in the pool, and spend lots of time with family.  When we feel safe and ready for more public outings, we can’t wait to take him to the Texas State Aquarium and the San Antonio Zoo!  We’re also on a mission to become “the family who hikes”, so we’re open to any and all local and nearby hiking recommendations!

What advice would you give someone who is considering a career in consulting?

Consulting offers a lot of variety, tons of interaction with other like-minded professionals, and many, many rewards.  Everyone should probably consider it along their way through their career.  If you do it, take full advantage, and hopefully, you enjoy it so much, you stay for a long time!

Ready to join #TeamBridgepoint?
