Employee Spotlight: Matt Haller – NetSuite Director
We are excited to announce the addition of Matt Haller, a NetSuite Director, to the Bridgepoint team! Matt has over 34 years of experience and prior to joining #teambridgepoint, he was a Vice President at Capgemini, leading a national NetSuite practice comprised of over 130 employees, and delivery for Oracle Cloud applications. He also ran ERP services as a Partner for one of the largest accounting and advisory firms brands in the US for over ten years.
Get to know your new teammate in his own words…
Hi, I’m Matt, and I work as a Director in Bridgepoint’s NetSuite Consulting practice in Minneapolis, MN. I received my Bachelor of Science in Management Studies from the University of Minnesota, and I’m APICS certified.
WHAT I DO AT BRIDGEPOINT…
I joined the firm to help build and grow the NetSuite practice as it expands nationally. Geographically, I will focus more on the Midwest and Eastern regions of the U.S. Our expansion will involve deepening and broadening the delivery team, further industrialization of delivery tools and methods, as well as packaging repeatable solutions for our clients.
WHAT ATTRACTED ME TO BRIDGEPOINT…
I view Bridgepoint as being at a compelling inflection point, ready for the next evolution of growth. I was drawn to the unwavering commitment to company culture and entrepreneurial spirit. Additionally, the middle-market focus and private equity firm relationships fit well with markets I have worked in during my career. I would say the combination of being able to contribute to growth, in a fantastic company culture, with a dynamic market focus is what brought me to Bridgepoint.
WHAT I ENJOY MOST ABOUT MY LINE OF WORK…
I derive a tremendous amount of personal satisfaction from two key areas in this profession:
- Helping companies improve. Our clients are often faced with complex challenges where there is no clear answer. There is nothing more satisfying than knowing that you and your team helped a client overcome a challenge, or meet an objective. I become personally vested in the challenge and take pride in helping to achieve the solution.
- Developing younger team members to become future leaders. This profession provides a unique opportunity for younger professionals to learn processes, technology, industry, and problem-solving acumen while delivering value to clients. It creates future leaders for the firm, or within the industry. I find it very satisfying to see talent emerge and grow, and to know that I had a personal stake in developing individuals to reach their potential.
WHAT I FIND CHALLENGING ABOUT THE TECHNOLOGY & NETSUITE FIELD…
Modern technology has the capability for companies to operate in ways that were never before possible. However, this requires innovative thinking and companies to change and adapt. As consultants, we must push ourselves to bring innovative ideas to our clients. Companies then need to accept and change to take advantage of these innovations.
HOW MY PAST EXPERIENCES TRANSLATE TO MY WORK AT BRIDGEPOINT…
In my consulting career, I have always gravitated towards building and growing service lines, offerings, and practices. I have done this with small, medium, and large consulting organizations. I look forward to the opportunity to bring my collective experience, lessons learned, thoughts and ideas to the table in order to help Bridgepoint achieve its next evolution of growth.
ONE THING I’M EXCITED TO TACKLE IN MY NEW ROLE…
If I had to sum it up in a word, it would be GROWTH, and I mean that from two dimensions:
- Creating offerings and providing consulting services to help grow their business
- Helping to further industrialize the NetSuite practice and adding components to scale it to the next level
MY LEADERSHIP PHILOSOPHY…
I believe in leading by example and leading from behind. A leader is not a leader without followers. Over the years, I have learned that followers are earned, not inherited. Respect, teaching, guiding, accountability, and celebrating the success of others earns followers.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE NETSUITE PRACTICE AS IT EXPANDS NATIONWIDE…
Bridgepoint has a stellar reputation for delivering quality and results to its clients. Expansion needs to be done in a way that preserves the delivery quality and maintains consistent client and employee experience. Often, this requires more formal processes and tools rather than as much reliance on individual contributors. Adding structure not only must preserve quality, customer and employee experience, it must be done with simplicity and efficiency.
MY ADVICE IF YOU’RE CONSIDERING A CAREER IN CONSULTING…
Consulting is not about being the smartest person in the room. Although a consultant you must be externally aware and prepared to bring innovative solutions, the art of consulting is more about leading a client to the business objective and creating an approach to achieve the objective. Premiums are paid for delivery execution and results, not for information (which is available instantly to anyone in today’s digital world).
WHY I DECIDED TO PURSUE THE CONSULTING PATH…
After working for 7 years in the industry, I found that I enjoyed project work, helping companies improve, much more than routine daily tasks.
ONE FUN FACT THAT WOULD SURPRISE PEOPLE ABOUT ME…
I was a Big 10 swimming champion. Okay seriously, I won the 100 Free intramural swimming event as a freshman at the University of Minnesota. Not much to brag about.
ON THE WEEKEND, YOU’LL FIND ME…
I enjoy spending time outdoors fishing, pheasant hunting, hiking, or just doing yard work. I also own a classic car that I tinker with from time to time.
